ABOUT US
What is a Constructing Excellence Club?
Constructing Excellence Clubs are designed to allow people from across the construction industry to get together to learn and share Best Practice. The Clubs are genuinely local services. Each new Club is started by the drive and vision of a person or persons in the local construction industry. Excellence in construction can be described as:
- Creating individual, community and national prosperity (wealth) through the provision of products and services;
- Creating opportunities for living, learning, recreation and development that will advance the interests of the community at large;
- Exceeding all community expectations for products and services offered and creating added value;
- Achieving expected margins and ensuring value is delivered;
- Earning community respect for aesthetic, safety and environmental standards;
- Having integrated teams delivering world class constructed products, buildings, facilities and infrastructure incorporating quality components, systems and products;
- Respecting its people and the wider community;
- Exporting a range of products and services to other industries.
Who can get involved?
Anyone who is in the construction industry - from the client or owner of a building, to the design team, main and specialist contractors, house builders and materials manufacturers and suppliers. The only pre-requisite is that you should be committed to improving your performance.
What happens at club meetings?
The focus of interest is Excellence in Construction from all perspectives but the format and range of activities are up to you. Typical meetings involve:
- Inviting a speaker - perhaps someone who is an expert in a particular construction-related field, or possibly from another industry - to explain how it works and the benefits.
- Arranging a presentation on topical issues such as sustainability, health and safety or lean construction.
- Visiting a nearby Demonstration Project.
- Meeting up with another Constructing Excellence Club so that you all learn and share information.
Our Vision
To have world-class design and construction in Gloucestershire that creates a demonstrably better environment.
Our Aim
To improve performance in our industry.
Our Industry
All those involved in the commissioning, design, construction, repair and maintenance, demolition and disposal of our built environment.
Our Club
The Constructing Excellence Club in Gloucestershire was formed to create a unique bridge between industry, clients, government and the research community. Following the collaborative ethos of Construction Excellence, the Committee members are from diverse range of construction industry backgrounds (clients, consultants, contractors, product manufacturers, construction trades) and all passionately share a strong commitment to achieving Excellence in construction. The Club is proud of its ability to give an authoritative view on matters of critical importance for the construction sector. Membership numbers are increasing as a result of the Club’s welcoming atmosphere and dedication to creating an environment where appropriate and leading edge subject matter is addressed.
The aims set out in the Club’s constitution form the basis of our work programme. For 2011, there are six key objectives for the Club:
- Promote and provide education, information and training on all aspects of the construction and built environment sector using a series of events, newsletters and web-site;
- To provide networking opportunities for members;
- To represent the interests of the Construction Sector in Gloucestershire and to lobby via Constructing Excellence South West and nationally on key issues;
- To drive the sustainability agenda through the supply chain, with the support of Gloucestershire First and Local Enterprise Partnerships to ensure we can respond to this critical agenda;
- Increase membership – particularly the student fraternity through stronger ties with local & regional education providers, including the University of Gloucestershire, Gloucestershire College, Stroud College, UWE,
- Expand the content and quality of the web-site
